Blacksmithing: Wands Made of Gold

With my recent post on BS i got alot of good feed back which i appreciate greatly. Some suggestions were that i should look into crafting wands for to sell on the AH. At first i rejected this idea mainly because of laziness. Well i got off my lazy butt over the weekend and decided that if i had the profession to take advantage of a market i should. After looking at my BS to find which wands i would want to produce i decided that there were only 4 worth crafting. The 4 i decided on were arcanite rods, fel iron rods, true silver rods, and titanium rods these were the least common rods on the AH with little to no competition. The next step i performed was calculating cost of mats and expected selling price of each rod.

True Silver Rod - (1 truesilver Bar, 1 Heavy Grinding Stone) - (6.1g* materials raw have to smelt) - (sells for 17g)- (10.9g profit)

Arcanite Rod- (3 Arcanite Bars, 1dense grinding stone) - (12g, 1s,* Arcanite transmuted only cost effective way) - ( sells for 70g, ) - ( 58g profit)

Fel Iron Rod- (6 Fel Iron Bars) - (24g) - (sells for 60g )- (36g profit)

Titanium Rod- (2 Saronite Bars, 1 Titanium Bar) - (23g) - (sells for 60g )-(37g profit)

The list above states all the mats needed to craft a rod and its estimated selling point and estimated profit. I suggest that anyone wishing to craft rods buy the mats in bulk. Generally most stacks of 20 will be cheaper than individual bars and gems. For the arcanite rods find a alchemist that can transmute arcanite generally the mats to transmute arcanite bars are cheaper than buying the bars. I plan to craft 10 rods to sell of each type if the mats cost are to high i may not craft that particular rod. Currently the most profitable rod is the arcanite although titanium and fel iron rods can have pretty good profit margins.

About yesterday

I'm sorry i was not able to post yesterday life and wow got in the way. Yesterday I decided to get my BS leveled to 350. To do this I used a guide from wow-profession.com They have great guides although some of the bar counts for certain items were off. I spent probably around 1k to get all of the mats. However I dont count this as a loss of gold because my time was more wisely spent. It took me half the time to level than it would have if I farmed all my own ore.

I spent 1k gold to level my BS I found a way to make some of the money back. I disenchanted the items i was crafting and sold the mats. After disenchanting and selling the items i made around 600g. Which means that i realy only spent 400g to level my BS to 350. Now im slowly leveling my warrior and leveling both his mining and BS at the same time. Hopefully when i reach eternal belt buckles ill be able to enter that market. Im also going to continue DE the items i make so that i can sell them for profit.

Stalled.

Well it seems like my money making has stalled. This could be due to less play time recently. Also i seem to be spending more time money and effort on trying to gain control over the netherweave market. So I plan on liquidating the remainder of my netherweave stock. If I can sell the bags for more than 11g ill make profit.

I then am going to try and keep doing bid low sell normal and level my black smithing. I hope to catch it up to 375 by next weekend. Once i get it caught up I'm going to buy the mats to level to 450 since northrend bars are fairly cheap. After that i hope to possibly try the belt buckle market out. I also may look into whether I can find a good tailoring item to craft and d/e for profit.

I've learned a good bit from my netherwave experience. While i didn't accomplish my goal of getting competition out of it i did learn a method to push prices higher and have a stock of mats backed up. I also learned that while the money can be good sometimes the time investment isn't. I was spending more game time focusing on trying to control that market I'm sure i lost money in other markets. I plan to still partake in the bag market but I'm going to let the prices reset on netherweave cloth so i can get a better profit margins. Or at the very least stop paying 11g for stacks of cloth and only selling the bags for 13g 86s .

Blacksmith leveling

I have a new goal for my gold today. It will cost me 7k g but I'm really looking forward to accomplishing the task. I plan to use the 7k g to get my recently reactivated warrior his epic flyer, dual spec, and cold weather flying. Here's the catch though instead of mooching the gold from my current gold making factory. I'm going to use my warriors professions and leveling gold to accomplish my task. His professions are 375 mining and 225 black smithing. Which means its back to azeroth to farm the ore to catch my BS up to 375. I am however making a 1k loan from my factory to get Dual spec just so i can test arms and prot out to see which i want to use.

I plan to farm the old school thorium ore myself instead of spending 75g a stack. After farming the ore and crafting various items i will send them to my DE char to be made into enchanting mats. Then ill sell the mats for profit or look at creating rare enchants to sell as scrolls. I hope to keep a tally of how well the mats sell and how much gold i make leveling my BS up to 450.
